Women of Myth is about epic women in mythology from around the world. We cover a diverse range of cultures, from Greek and Roman mythology to important figures from regions such as Africa and African Diaspora countries, the Pacific Islands, Asia and the Middle East, indigenous cultures from North, South, and Central America; and more.

We cannot wait to share these tales with you.

Some of our favorite women featured in the book include:

Atalanta: The fleet-footed huntress and heroine of ancient Greece who joined the Argonauts; she helped slay the Calydonian Boar; and refused to marry any man who could not beat her in a foot race.

Deer Woman: A shape-shifter and protectress of Native American women and children.

Ishtar: A bearded goddess of sex and war from ancient Mesopotamia. She was hot-tempered with a lust for conquest, and her priestesses were transgender.

Mulan: A brave Chinese folk heroine who disguised herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army and protect her homeland.

Sheherazade: The spellbinding storyteller of the Thousand and One Nights, who beguiled a king with her stories.

One of the best parts of this book is the amazing people we get to collaborate with. Thirty of the fifty entries will be illustrated by the incomparable Sara Richard, who illustrated the bestselling Greek Mythology: the Gods, Goddesses and Heroes Handbook by Liv Albert from Let’s Talk About Myths, Baby!. Liv will also be writing our foreword!

We are so excited about this book because it represents a wonderful opportunity to bring more diversity to our work. In addition to cultural and regional diversity, we collaborated with Sara to portray diverse beauty standards in many ways, including size and body type, skin tone, and gender presentation.
