How to Survive a Siege, Part I: The Show Notes

NOT THE CLEANERS!!

…Sorry, we had to do that…

This episode was a lot of fun to research and write. Our biggest source for this was Appian’s The Civil Wars, which you can find at the link below. Appian writes so vividly–all the emotional scenes we quoted leading up to the 3rd Punic War, including the infamous “street cleaners” scenes, are from this book (street cleaners is on sections 128-129 of the part on the Punic Wars).

This book is also a great resource for the rest of the Punic Wars, as well as a number of other wars fought by Rome.

In addition, if you want to learn more about the Punic Wars in podcast format, you should check out Dan Carlin’s Punic Nightmares series. He also digs deep into Appian, and covers all three Punic Wars in detail. It’s paid, but very worth it.
